Single session

About 90 minutes

A cup of Japanese green tea resting on tatami in a quiet room.

An introduction to Japanese tea through a cup of sencha.

In this small gathering, we’ll explore a little about tea, its journey around the world, and what makes Japanese tea distinctive, including some of its different varieties.

We’ll then learn the basics of preparing sencha, one of Japan’s familiar everyday green teas, using a tea bag sample and a simple method you can easily repeat at home.

Together, we’ll prepare and taste a cup, taking time to notice its aroma, flavor, and character, and see how small changes in preparation can shape the cup.

No previous knowledge of Japanese tea is needed, and no special teaware is required.
